Grade 1 – Learning about Stories:
Over the last term, the Kindergarten and Grade 1 students have been exploring the different elements of storytelling. This unit explored the various parts of a story and different ways people tell stories, and stories and legends from around the world.
As part of their unit, the Grade 1s and Kindergartens took a trip to GWK Cultural Center where they learned about traditional Balinese stories and traditional ways of expressing them through dance, music, puppets, and art.
In the past month, students have retold and created their very own stories through music, art, comics, drama, puppet shows, and through becoming authors themselves.
The Grade 1 students have worked hard on going through the editing process of imagining, drafting, editing, and publishing their very own stories which they shared with their families and peers.
It has been wonderful seeing the students’ imaginations sore as they have gotten to create their very own characters and setting and imagine the endless possibilities of what adventures their imaginations can go on.
Both classes celebrated this exciting topic with a unit celebration this week where they told stories in Indonesian, performed music, and recited poems.
To keep the imagination flowing over the winter break we would like to encourage students to continue to read each night before they go to bed or tell a story, keeping their imagination going and opening them up to a world of limitless possibility.
BIS Book Week Celebration coming in 2023
BIS will be celebrating Book Week from Monday, February 27th to Friday, March 3, 2023. We will have reading, writing, and learning events, activities, contests, guest speakers, a celebration of the Mother Tongue language, and more each day for both Secondary and Primary. We will be reaching out to parents for assistance with our Mother Tongue activities that week, which we are both very excited about and in desperate need of parent participation. We will be looking for foreign language speakers as well as books in our family’s native languages.
More information will be forthcoming, but if you already know you would like to participate, please contact one of our Book Week Committee members (Ibu Putu, Ms. Martina, Mr. Marshall, Madame Afaf, Ibu Kristen Turner, Ibu Nadia Demolder, Mrs. Jenson, Mrs. Victoria, and Ibu Alice Guzowski).
Be on the lookout for more details in the New Year; we thank you in advance! Have a nice break.
