Message from STUCO

Hello BIS Community, we hope everyone is doing well. We wanted to inform you about an upcoming event that we are going to organize to aid individuals impacted by the recent earthquakes in Syria and Turkey. On February 6, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake and many aftershocks struck Southern Turkey and Northern Syria — one of the most powerful in the area in over a century. The death toll has sadly surpassed 35,000 and continues to grow hourly. Before the earthquake, this area was home to a population that was already in a precarious position as a result of years of violence that caused tremendous continuing demands. Now that fallen buildings and damaged roads have displaced and trapped hundreds of thousands of people in harsh weather.

Therefore, we determined that this would be the ideal chance for our community to assist these families and individuals who are in dire need of assistance from people across the globe, including ourselves. In order to do this, we will donate through World Vision, namely because they focus on the most vulnerable, namely children.

Let’s help out! We will be sending text messages to BIS Parents Group Chats with information on how to donate. Let’s compile our donations to the school’s bank account with the memo “Earthquake Fundraiser.” By Friday, February 24, 2023, we will compile the donations collected by the BIS community and give them collectively to World Vision’s fundraiser. We are counting on you, Dragons!
