Message from the Head of School – February 24, 2023

IMPORTANT: Please recall that the deadline for re-enrollment for current BIS students is Friday, 17th March. After this date, enrollment will be opened up to the families who are on the waiting lists. You may re-enroll your child/children via this link and by paying the 15 million IDR registration fee to guarantee your place(s) for the next school year, 2023-24.

Clarification regarding parking: after 08:00 and after 15:00, ALL parents may use the car park. This is so that all parents may attend meetings, appointments etc on campus. The sticker system only applies to ‘drop-off’ and ‘pick-up’ that occurs from around 0715-0800 and from 1445-1500, which is when PYP parents have priority. All other times out with 0715-0800 and after 1500 are OPEN to ALL parents. Recall, we will trial the new parking arrangement where PYP parents have priority for drop-off/pick-up from Monday, 27th February. Please do not park at the corner when dropping off MYP/DP students, as our neighbors are expressing concerns about unauthorized parking.

Following on requests from parents, Funbites will provide some more ‘healthier’ snacks for students. Please help us by also encouraging your children to eat healthily. The continuation of providing healthy snack options is largely dependent on popularity.

Our student-led conferences/student conferences will take place on Friday, March 17th. Based on parent feedback, we will continue with face-to-face/online meetings in the MYP & DP morning/afternoon, respectively, and face-to-face only in the PYP, all day. Additionally, also based on feedback, in the MYP/DP, meetings will take place in ‘common’ areas, e.g. the MPR and Library. PYP meetings will take place in the classrooms. A link to make appointment requests and other details will be sent soon. Note; students are expected to attend all meetings, both face-to-face, and online. Classes will be suspended, but students will accompany their parents to school.

Recently, we rehearsed our “duck and cover’ procedure which we adopt in case of an immediate threat on campus. At that time, there were still parents on campus who were unsure what to do. Therefore, as per our parent-student handbook, please be aware that the following apply:

    • SHORT REPEATING SIREN: move to the nearest INDOOR area, e.g. class, library, office and take cover, staff will advise you.
    • LONG CONTINOUS SIREN: Move to the covered court area, staff will advise you.

In partnership with Our Year in Bali and Emerhub, we would like to offer parents a free advice session on Property Management/Property Rentals and setting up businesses in Bali. This session is particularly relevant and useful to parents who are new to Bali and are considering how to branch out and expand their potential in Bali. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Simone Collins from Our Year in Bali will be able to answer many questions from parents new to Bali about how to settle in and how to maximize your time in Bali, and Florent and Brittney will take questions on behalf of Emerhub. This will take place in the library from 5 pm on Tuesday 28th February.

Message from our STUCO

Dear BIS Community,

We hope everyone is doing well.

We’re Caspia and WIlliam from Grade 11.

As we all have seen on the news, there was a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked Türikye and Syria on February 6th. The initial earthquake loosened all the infrastructure, and the following aftershocks brought them to the ground – this is one of the most powerful earthquakes in the area in over a century.

On Monday, 20 February, another 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the Türkiye-Syria border, damaging and unloosening the already unsteady buildings. They need our help facing even more chaos and destruction.

We believe this would be a great opportunity for our community to come together and help families and individuals who are in dire need of assistance. In order to do this, we will donate through World Vision, namely because they focus on the most vulnerable, namely children.

By 26 February 2023 (Sunday), we would like to compile all the donations, and send it to World Vision on behalf of the BIS Community.

Please consider donating, as every little bit will add up and help the situation.

Please donate to:
