TAKING ACTIONS in MUSIC
The great aim of education is not knowledge but action
Herbert Spencer
Taking action is an essential element of the PYP. Teaching and learning at the school follows Kath Murdoch’s Inquiry Cycle, which incorporates the idea of taking action.
Taking action is an integral conclusion to the learning that involves students making connections to what they have learned, applying a variety of real life skills, demonstrating an enduring understanding through concepts and reflecting on the attributes of the Learner Profile and the PYP Attitudes.
Taking action, whether it’s small or big brings purpose to our leaning, and it is not restricted by the age of the inquirer. BIS students regularly find ways to make a difference. Here are some examples of students taking action in music last year.
1. Bringing musical instruments from home.
2. Making musical instrumental from recycled materials.
This is my drum. I made it from a raisin can. I love it.
Alba
Alba found blocks in her room and then she put them inside an empty raisin can, closed the lid, and aloha! She made her own ‘shaker drum’. She brought it to school and showed it to her friends in the music room.
3. Write own music.
Juliette (Gr.1) wrote her own song
Stella (Gr.1), wrote a song for her music teacher. Thanks Stella
Timmy learned to write a poem in his class. He decided to turn his poem into a song. Feel free to ask him to sing his song for you!
Well done, students!
