Week 30-Time for a rest!

11 straight weeks of learning and events, what an exciting and eventful term!  Now is a time to regroup and refresh before we come back for our final term and the culmination of our learning for 2016-17.  I know that our DP students will be taking this time to regroup after their many IA’s.  They have also planned out with their teachers and during DP hour their study schedule and plan for the holiday leading up to the exam period at the end of April.  This is a time for everyone to recharge batteries and prepare for the challenges ahead.  I am very proud of the way our students have finished this term, have a fantastic and well deserved holiday!

Celebrations of Learning and Achievement

These past two weeks have been quite full of events and opportunities for our students to showcase their learning and talents.  We have had our IB Art Exhibition, BSSA Basketball and Swimming Finals, Student led and Student/Parent/Teacher conferences and our end of term assessments.  I am including some pictures that highlight these events below.  We were able to finish our term with an assembly today where we gathered as a school to celebrate all of our students accomplishments: GIN Conference participation and presentations, SEAMC Math competition, Basketball and Swimming champions, as well as some of our musical performers and Personal Project presentations.  It was a very nice way to end our term and recognize all of the wonderful accomplishments of our students.

Second Semester Conferences

Thank you to all who participated in yesterday’s conferences.  It was great to see so many parents and students coming to speak about their learning and planning how the intend to continue to grow and challenge themselves.  The opening of ManageBac has really changed the focus of these conversations.  Instead of simply finding out how students are doing, the conversation was more geared towards how do we take this information and help our students grow.  Thank you again.

Term 3 Reports

This afternoon term 3 reports will be sent home via email.  Our term 3 reports highlight progress of learning up to this point.  They are also an opportunity for teachers to comment on Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills; such as preparation, attentiveness, and reflection.  Please take the time to read through these reports with your students.  If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact the secondary school office.

Enjoy a well deserved rest

I hope that everyone has a restful holiday and if you are travelling, may you travel safe.  Enjoy the break and I look forward to seeing everyone when we come back refreshed for term 4!

Thank you for your continued interest and support of BIS and our students.

Kind Regards,

Justin Walsh
