Message from the Head of School – March 1, 2019
Applause for a Cause
Thank you to our brilliant performers for entertaining us last evening at the “Applause for a Cause” event. Thank you too, for supporting the event and joining in our fundraising for the people of Lombok. Well done BIS! A special and heartfelt thanks to Ms. Sarah Alborn for spearheading this wonderful community event! #BetterTogether
Scholarships Available at BIS!
The Board has been working on a scholarship project for many years and is now ready to communicate that Bali Island School will offer a number of scholarships for School Year 2019-2020. The available scholarships are:
- Yayasan Scholarship – awarded to a deserving Indonesian student
- Academic Scholarship – awarded to applicants who excel in all areas of learning
- Leadership Scholarship – awarded to applicants who demonstrate a remarkable talent and skill in an area of expertise
The Yayasan Scholarship is limited to an Indonesian student whose family can demonstrate a financial need. The Scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees, CLC fees and IB Fees. This scholarship demonstrates Bali Island School’s commitment to the greater Balinese community, the respect we have for living in this wonderful country of Indonesia, and our commitment to serve our community. This scholarship aligns beautifully with our IB Profile values of living a Principled and Caring life.
The Academic and Leadership Scholarships will cover 50% of tuition fees for the successful student. Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible to submit an application:
- Fee paying family of any nationality, new or current student
- Have excellent academic standing in all current classes, as well as the previous full academic year
- Demonstrate a long-term commitment to learning
- Be an exemplar of the BIS Behavior expectations, attendance and demonstrate respect and involvement in the school community
Leadership candidates must also have a demonstrable talent.
Please help us to share this exciting news with our greater Sanur and Bali communities. Application packets are available through our admissions office.
Professional Development Update
I wanted to provide you with an update of our professional development efforts this year. As mentioned previously, with the new curricula being produced by the IB, some of our teachers required that their IB training be updated, so this learning has happened or will occur by the end of this year. We also wanted to advance our English Language Learning program, Child Protection efforts, alignment with the Ministry of Education, support of our accrediting agencies (CIS/WASC/IBO) and to maintain our ties with the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS). We have been busy! Many thanks to all of the teachers involved and for sharing your learning with our team back here at BIS.
