Message from the Head of School – September 9, 2022

What an incredible week we have had on our return to EOTC, Education Outside The Classroom. Students have embraced the challenges of being out of their comfort zones, sleeping in tents, having to cook their own meals, and have contributed so much towards Service As Action through a variety of activities and projects. We witnessed so many students demonstrating leadership and environmental awareness and other life skills. This is a wonderful example of our mission in action and we thank you, our parent community, for being so supportive and understanding during the planning stages, and also during the week itself. A massive thank you to Mr. Javier Menendez for organizing this huge event and for all of our dedicated teachers and staff who helped create lifelong memories for many students. Grade 7 actually fought over who would wash the dishes. We hope this new found love of domestic chores extends to your home upon return……

Our strategic planning project is well on course and the volunteer parents have been briefed on the objectives behind the project. The first meeting will take place this coming Thursday 15th September, and please recall that school will be closed from 1200 onwards on this day, as per our school calendar.

We are now nearing the end of our first term, and this means that we will be holding 3-way conferences (Student-Teacher/School-Parent). For those parents new to BIS, our conferences are “student-led” and this is a wonderful way for students to showcase their learning to their parents and guardians. Students are at the center of the conferences and are therefore required to be present. One of the few positives to arise from covid is the realization that for some parents, online conferences are a convenient way to hold conferences instead of face to face. Therefore, to accommodate busy schedules and lifestyles, we will offer a blend of face to face conferences and online conferences. Exact details of which programmes (PYP/MYP/DP) will offer each style will follow very soon. Note that these conferences will take place on Friday October 07th, all day. We have an electronic booking system to facilitate this, and you will be given access soon to allow you to make your appointment(s).

We hope to have another food provider on board very soon, and have sampled the food on offer last week. We shall share the menu and ordering system very soon.
