Message from the Head of School – October 21, 2022

On Monday 24th, we will once again welcome back our International Day celebrations.  This may be described as one of the biggest events on our calendar. In line with our mission of nurturing globally-minded confident learners, and our definition of international mindedness, I invite all of those who can attend to come along and celebrate our diversity. As the PTA will have made you aware, we have an afternoon of celebrations, activities, events, and of course, some lovely food, to acknowledge who we are and how we stand united from all corners of the globe. The event starts at 1230 and concludes at 1445 in the field and covered court area. NOTE: CCA’s will be postponed on this day, and will resume on Tuesday 25th October. On behalf of our whole community, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lucy Junghans, PTA President, previous PTA officers Jinae and Novvi, Ms. Nadia PYPC, and all others involved in putting this massive event together. It has been a HUGE task, well done.

May I ask that in the interests of maintaining our North Field football park in good condition, that parents and drivers do not park or turn on the field. Due to the recent rains, the ground has become soft and this has led to troughs being formed in the pitch due to cars parking and turning. 

Sick students: Please remember that when students are sick, they should remain at home to avoid the spread of the illness. Towards the end of the last term, it was noted that a number of students appeared quite sick and had to be sent home to rest. This is still even more important in these current times as we try to reduce covid transmission.

Thank you for your feedback regarding our recently held 3-way conferences. The feedback was very positive but also gave us valuable insights into areas that we need to develop further. We will shortly be sending out short surveys to students to gather feedback on the quality of the food providers that we use. This will be done in school, during homeroom.

Dates for the diary:

• Thursday 17th November, half day for staff professional development.
• School break, Friday 18th November, school closed for mid-term break.
• Counsellor Workshop: Thursday 03rd November, Grade 1-4, “Media use in children”.

 

Our very active student council STUCO are putting together a series of events to celebrate Halloween. I would like to share a message from STUCO:

“Welcome back from the term break! We hope everyone has had a wonderful break and had time to rest. 

STUCO is happy to present to you all with SPOOKY WEEK!

Be part of an exciting, fun, and spooky week at school! From Monday the 31st of October to Friday the 4th of November, STUCO will host a Halloween-themed spirit week filled with games, activities and themes to dress up as!  

The schedule is as following:

Monday: Meme Monday

• Come dressed up as your favorite meme 
• Activity: Photo Booth competition
  • Take pictures in front of the green screen near room 3 and submit them to bisstuco@baliis.net to win house points 
    • 1st place: 30 points 
    • 2nd place: 15 points
    • 3rd place: 5 points

Tuesday: Twin Tuesday 

• Come dressed up identically to one or more people 

Wednesday: Superhero V.S Villain Day 

• Come dressed to school as your favorite superhero or villain 
• Activity: Dodgeball game at lunch, covered courts 12:45, teams will be Superheroes VS Villains

Thursday: Spooky day 

• Dress up in anything related to Halloween 
• Trick or Treating at 9:20-9:40 
  • Each homeroom brings their own candy to share with others

Friday: Homeroom theme dress up 

Each grade will choose one theme to dress up as a whole class

• Halloween movie night!!
  • Starting at 4:00pm- until the movie finishes (Approximately 5:30pm)
  • Movie ticket price: Rp 15,000 each (for all movies)
  • There will be three movies playing in groups of PYP, G6-9, G10-DP.
• Halloween themed bake sale at 12:45-1:20

Please note that dress code rules still apply and we encourage the themes to be positive. We will allow props that do not cause harm to others and yourself, such as fake blood and fake weapons. We have been given permission to do so, please do not take advantage.
