Message from the Head of School – August 9, 2019
I’d like to thank all of our returning BIS Dragons for lending a helping and friendly hand to each of our new students this week. We’ve witnessed various acts of kindness and caring as new students have needed a hand finding their classroom, looking for a friend to eat lunch with, and taking time to get to know new classmates. It really has been beautiful to see. Thank you and keep up the good effort to include everyone and be caring Dragons.
New parents, please note the PTA Morning Coffee New Parent Welcome is scheduled for the courtyard at 8:00 a.m. next Thursday morning, August 15.
On the 16th at 7:45 a.m. we will celebrate Indonesian Independence Day with a flag raising ceremony followed by student performances in the MPR. We look forward to everyone joining us – wear a traditional Indonesian outfit or Red and White!
Our Grade 11 cohort left this morning for a camping/bonding experience. Mr. Wood, our IB DP Coordinator, Ms. Vera Pereira – IB Biology and Mr. Klaus Weber – IB Business Management and Economics are bravely leading these students. The cohort will be challenged to set goals for the two year programme, get to know and support each other as the rigorous programme begins.
Promoting Student Advocacy is a major area of focus as we look to improve the Social-Emotional Health (SE Health) of our students here at BIS. Our teachers are also student advisors and provide pastoral care of students. In this role, they are encouraging all students to be aware of their feelings and when hurt, or when they see a friend hurting to take action. Action can take many different paths and us adults can help guide students to take positive action–to stand up for themselves or a peer.
Thank you for acknowledging feelings at home and also for counseling positive and healthy outcomes for these emotions.
Have a great weekend ahead!
Garth
