BIS Students Excel in AMC

After a four-year hiatus, Bali Island School students returned to take part in the Australia Math Competition on August 6th, and did so with some formidable results. Of the 32 students between grades four and twelve who chose to take part, 18 managed at least a score of ‘Credit’. Credit is defined by the AMC as students who achieved in the 50th percentile or greater. Given that only top Mathematics students across Australia and selected international schools take part, this is a proud achievement indeed.

Of those students, five managed a score of ‘distinction’, and one grade eight student even scored a ‘high distinction’, ranking in the 99th percentile.

All of the students will receive an award or certificate of recognition for their efforts, and will be recognized at an assembly in Term Two.

All of the questions that the students encountered on the test challenged their ability to think creatively and intuitively about mathematics, and select and apply different problem-solving strategies.

The BIS Math Club fosters the development of these aptitudes, and continues to run every Tuesday from 15:00 to 16:00. It is open to students from grade four and up. Additionally, the Bali Math Competition (BMC) 6th edition will take place at Bali Island School on Saturday, November 7th. Students who are aged 12 and under may participate in the Junior Competition, while those aged 13 and 14 will take part in the Senior Competition.
