Early Years Assembly & Other Upcoming Assemblies

One of the things we’ve missed most about being at school is bringing our students and teacher together every two weeks for assemblies. Over the next two weeks, we’re going to host our first assemblies since Distance Learning has commenced. We will start next Friday with an Early Years Assembly for our Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1 students. The week after we’ll host an assembly for our Grade 2- 5 students and we are already planning our End of Year Primary Assembly, our Grade 5 Graduation, Grade 5 – 6 Transition Meetings and our End of Year Whole School Assembly..

Distance Learning Feedback

Thank you to the parents that completed our most recent Parent Feedback on Distance Learning. I have passed your feedback onto the teachers and am also looking at how I can take advantage of your feedback to improve my practice. Please remember to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about your child’s learning. I am also happy to speak to you if you have questions or suggestions for me.

Grade 3 Music

To support the last unit this year ‘How We Organize Ourselves’ students are learning the history and evolution of recorder. They are working to find the facts of the recorder and the material of recorder through time (part of evolution). In three weeks, students are expected to show their understanding of how their choice matters for our mother earth and finding the earth-friendly instruments because it impacts local and global problems (our environment).

Isti Proboningtyas – Music Teacher.

Grade 1 Archaeologists

As Grade 1 tune in to their unit under Where We Are in Place and Time, they are learning about personal histories and artifacts. This week, they considered the tools and skills needed to be an archaeologist. They went searching for clues and used their knowledge to infer what these clues could tell them about a place. Some students went digging at home and discovered many exciting artifacts.

Other students took time to interview older relatives and grandparents to find out how their lives were different from now as well as creating a family tree. These clues from the past encourage the students to make comparisons and explore the concepts of change and connection.

Students have then analysed the information they received from interviews, pictures and word sorts, and books and sharing their knowledge and make comparisons between life now and long ago.

Grade 3 – Sharing the planet & how we organise ourselves.

The Grade 3 students have been working through the inquiry cycle in preparation for their stop-motion projects, related to a combined approach to our final two central ideas for this year:

  • To meet our needs and wants, people make choices that impact animals.
  • Organizations and individuals work together towards having an impact on local and global problems.

Tuning in, finding out and sorting out: We started with a recap of our needs and wants before we investigated the different classifications of animals. Once we knew about animal classification, biomes, and adaptations, we were able to start thinking about how some animals are being impacted by our needs and wants. We also connected the central idea to The Lorax by Dr Seuss. To take it a step further, we then inquired into some local and global organizations who are trying to help our animals.

Going further & taking action: Where to next for the G3 students? Over the next 3 weeks, we will take the facts we know about animals and their habitats and create storylines that show animals in danger and how organisations and individuals out there are coming up with positive solutions to make a change and save our animals! Keep a lookout for some examples of our amazing stop-motion projects coming soon to eNews!

Grade 2 Indonesian Studies

As part of the “Where we are in place and time” unit, grade 2 Indonesian studies have been inquiring into different regions or islands in Indonesia. Students have been learning about Indonesian traditional clothes, different languages spoken in some parts in Indonesia, the provinces and the capital city and the traditional songs from Papua. Students demonstrated a good understanding of interesting facts of Indonesia. Here are some examples of students’ work.
